A good source for info on, and recommendations for books for children is "Books, Children, and God" by Mary-Ruth Wilkinson, an expert on children's books and co-author of a book she wrote with with her daughter, called A Time to Read. The books/authors/illustrators listed below are recommended in her book. We'd love to receive any of your recommendations, too!
 
Also, we have nothing against used books at all -- in fact that's how we've acquired most of our "grown ups" library.
